Calculate your SSF
Figures update instantly as you type. SSF is assessed on basic salary only, not gross pay.
Basic salary exceeds the FY 2082/83 SSF ceiling of NPR 3,50,000. Contribution is calculated on NPR 3,50,000 only.
How it works
How SSF contribution is actually calculated
Three rules decide the number on your payslip. Get these right and the rest is arithmetic.
- Start from basic salary, not gross. Allowances, dearness allowance, travel, and bonuses are excluded. If your structure is 60% basic / 40% allowances, only the 60% portion counts.
- Apply 11% for the employee, 20% for the employer. The employee’s share is deducted directly from pay; the employer’s share is an added cost on top of salary — it never reduces take-home pay.
- Check the ceiling. For FY 2082/83 the maximum basic salary subject to SSF is NPR 3,50,000/month. Above that, contributions stop growing.
- Employer deposits within the deadline. Employers must deposit both shares to the SSF within 25 days of month-end (extended from 15 days under a 2082 amendment); late deposits attract interest.
Contribution rates
The full 31% breakdown
SSF replaced the old Employees’ Provident Fund (10% + 10% = 20%) with a wider 31% structure that also funds medical, accident and family-protection cover.
| Contribution heading | Employee | Employer | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pension / Provident fund | 10% | 10% | 20% |
| Social security tax | 1% | — | 1% |
| Gratuity | — | 8.33% | 8.33% |
| Additional contribution | — | 1.67% | 1.67% |
| Total monthly contribution | 11% | 20% | 31% |
Separately, the employer’s 20% is pooled across four benefit schemes — Old Age Pension (17.33%), Medical, Health & Maternity (1.20%), Accident & Disability (0.80%) and Dependent Family Protection (0.67%) — per the current SSF scheme allocation. This is a different lens on the same 20%, not an additional charge.
